Fort Caspar Museum announces the opening of a new exhibit featuring never-before-seen pieces from its own collection: Colors on the Plains: Northern Plains Indian Decoration. Most of the 66 objects on display date to the late 19th and early 20th centuries and represent the artistry of the Lakota, Cheyenne, Shoshone, and Arapaho peoples. This exhibit will remain on view through November 2, 2013.
Visitors will see a variety of elaborately decorated objects, including moccasins, personal adornments, toys, weapons, and leather bags, that demonstrate the skillful use of feathers, paints, porcupine quills, horse hair, and various trade goods such as glass beads and bells. First-rate, American Indian-made items collected over the years by a local Casper family and recently donated to Fort Caspar Museum make up the majority of this incredible exhibit.
Fort Caspar Museum’s winter hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays. Admission prices in winter are $1.50 for adults; $1.00 for youth (ages 13-18 years); and FREE for children (12 years and younger).
